Frequently Asked Questions

General Physiotherapy FAQs
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession focused on restoring movement and function after an injury, illness, or disability. It includes manual therapy, exercise, education, and modalities like ultrasound or electrotherapy.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist?
No. You can book directly with a registered physiotherapist in Ontario. Some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement—please check with your provider.
What should I expect during my first physiotherapy session?
Your first session includes a full assessment, medical history review, physical exam, diagnosis, and a customized treatment plan. You may also receive treatment on the same day.
How long is each physiotherapy session?
Initial assessments take about 45–60 minutes. Follow-up treatments typically last 30–45 minutes.
What conditions do physiotherapists treat?
We treat back pain, sports injuries, arthritis, post-surgery rehab, repetitive strain injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries, work-related injuries, neurological conditions, and more.
WSIB – Workplace Injury FAQs
What is WSIB and how does it cover physiotherapy?
WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) covers the cost of physiotherapy for employees injured at work in Ontario. You must report the injury and file a WSIB claim to be eligible.
How can I start physiotherapy if I’m covered under WSIB?
Simply contact us. We will assist with the paperwork, perform a physiotherapy assessment, and submit your treatment plan to WSIB for approval.
Do I have to pay anything for WSIB-covered physiotherapy?
No. If your WSIB claim is approved, physiotherapy is fully covered and directly billed—no out-of-pocket cost.
What types of workplace injuries do you treat under WSIB?
We commonly treat back and neck pain, repetitive strain injuries, muscle/joint sprains, slip and fall injuries, and lifting-related injuries.
Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) FAQs
Is physiotherapy covered after a car accident?
Yes. If you’ve been injured in a car accident, Ontario auto insurance typically covers physiotherapy through the Statutory Accident Benefits system.
What do I need to start physiotherapy after an MVA?
You’ll need a claim number from your insurance company. We’ll handle the rest, including communication with your adjuster and direct billing.
Do I need a lawyer or doctor’s referral after an accident?
A doctor’s referral helps validate your injuries, but you can start physiotherapy right away. Having a lawyer is optional.
What injuries do you treat after car accidents?
We treat whiplash, soft tissue injuries, concussions, lower back pain, joint stiffness, and more.
IFHP – Refugee and Asylum Seeker FAQs
What is IFHP and how does it relate to physiotherapy?
IFHP (Interim Federal Health Program) provides free health coverage to refugees and asylum seekers. It covers physiotherapy services at approved clinics like ProHeal Physio.
How do I know if I qualify for IFHP physiotherapy?
If you are a protected person, refugee, or asylum seeker, you likely qualify. Just bring your Medavie Blue Cross coverage number to your appointment.
Do I have to pay anything under IFHP?
No. Physiotherapy under IFHP is 100% covered with no out-of-pocket cost.
Can I start treatment without a doctor’s note?
Yes. You can book an assessment directly with us. We will help you with documentation and billing.

Do you offer direct billing to insurance providers?

What if my plan doesn’t cover the full cost?
If there's a co-pay or deductible, we’ll inform you in advance. You’ll only be responsible for the remaining balance.
